To take on the unique experience of crossing an ocean in a rowing boat. A challenge that will see us row 5000km west from Marina Rubicon in Lanzarote, until we reach our final destination, The Jolly Harbour in Antigua.
Rowing 24 hours a day
Approx. 45 days at sea
1.5 million oar strokes during the crossing
Burning more than 5,000 calories a day
“A 5-year dream has reached reality, relentless physical training day in day out for over a year -Rowing the Atlantic Ocean is an incredibly demanding mental and physical challenge, arguably one of the toughest endurance events on earth.
It’s a privilege to be able to compete in this event, I want to test the limits to the brink of what humans can endure.
Leaving a legacy and making a difference to help find a cure for Dementia is what will keep us going through those long tough days & weeks – if we can help just one soul then it will be worth it.
Aligning with Race Against Dementia is very close to my heart – a special thanks to my enduring wife for her support, who will be virtually rowing these 1 million plus oar strokes with me not least greeting us in Antigua.”
“I want to help make a real difference in people’s lives.
Having personally seen and heard crippling first-hand accounts of the detrimental effects to individuals and families at the hands of dementia and with the realisation that there is no current cure has made me very motivated to join the race against dementia
at pace to help.
While my passion initially to row 5000km across the Atlantic was to be the first human on the planet to achieve the trilogy of summitting Mt Everest the highest mountain in the world and K2 the second highest and the most deadliest mountain on the planet and
row 50days unaided across the Atlantic. While that was possibly my initial why that has been superseded by my very deep routed commitment to join the Race to find a cure for dementia.
In my deepest darkest moments on the boat when I feel like giving up or giving in – I can’t ever and never, knowing each row stroke means so much to so many. And while my pain will last for 50 days their pain will last forever unless we find a solution fast.”
