Sir Jackie Stewart OBE

Race Against Dementia Fellow

University of Cape Town

Dr Ziphozihle Ntwatwa is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Cape Town. She trained at the University of the Western Cape in Nanoscience and then transferred to the University of Cape Town to do her PhD. For this she investigated the amygdala and hippocampal subregions and their relation to ageing in anxiety and related disorders, publishing her work in March 2023.

Ziphozihle is based in Dr Sam Nightingale’s team (who is also a Race Against Dementia Fellow) at the University of Cape Town Neuroscience Institute. Sam’s research group is studying the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in a large clinical cohort of people living with HIV. Ziphozihle will support the project, maximise the research output, and develop the broader programme of internationally collaborative work.
