You’ve smashed your fundraising, kept to your training routine and have your eye on the start line. But what can you do to make sure race day goes as smoothly as possible? We’ve compiled our top tips!
- Make sure you’re packed and ready to go! Don’t leave it until the last minute to decide on your race day attire, especially breaking in new running shoes. Most importantly, make sure you’ve packed your Race Against Dementia running top!
- Keep to foods you know – race day isn’t the time to try out new gels or sports drinks, which may upset your already nervous tummy. Use your training time to test what your preferred choices may be in the months and weeks leading up to your race.
- Know where you’re going. Don’t leave it until race morning to figure out where you’re meant to be. Race days are busy, with thousands of other runners and their supporters making their way to the start line. Check your transport options too and remember that roads may be closed for the race.
- Run your own race! When the firing gun goes off, it’s tempting to want to keep up with those around you. Remember your own pace, motivation and training. It’s a marathon not a sprint after all!
- Soak up the atmosphere! You’ve been waiting for this day for so long and now it’s time to celebrate all your hard work and commitment. Take in the shouts and cheers of encouragement from the spectators – we’d recommend printing your name on your race day top to receive personalised shouts of encouragement too!
If you’re about to head to the start line for Race Against Dementia, we’d like to thank you for your incredible support.
