Sir Alex Ferguson has today been announced as an ambassador for Race Against Dementia, the charity founded by three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE.
Founded in 2016 after Sir Jackie’s wife Helen was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, Race Against Dementia funds and trains groundbreaking researchers who are accelerating progress towards the prevention of dementia and ultimately, finding a cure.
The approach to research echoes the pace, precision and lateral thinking of Formula 1, with the belief that this mindset can deliver results in the laboratory in the fight against dementia.
The most successful manager in British football history, Sir Alex brings his passion, leadership, and personal commitment to the cause.
As an ambassador, he will help raise awareness and support for the charity’s mission to drive breakthrough solutions and fast-track global research efforts to combat dementia.
Sir Alex has seen first-hand the impact that dementia can have and has been involved in advocating for more support for ex-footballers who have developed the condition. He is a proud supporter of Race Against Dementia’s mission to speed up progress in finding a cure.
“Dementia is a fight we cannot afford to lose”
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “What Race Against Dementia is doing is so inspiring. Dementia is a fight we cannot afford to lose, and I am proud to be supporting the charity in my role as ambassador.”
“One of the greatest problem solvers of our time”
Mark Stewart, Chairperson of Race Against Dementia and Sir Jackie’s son, said: “We are proud to welcome Sir Alex as a Race Against Dementia ambassador. He is one of the greatest problem solvers of our time, an inspiring leader who has always pursued excellence. These traits as well as his personal motivation to help raise awareness of dementia underlines what we do as a charity. Together we will continue to support groundbreaking research to find a cure – faster.”
Alongside the announcement of Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorship, Race Against Dementia has teamed up with DHL, Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1®, to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the British Grand Prix like never before, all while helping to accelerate the fight against dementia.
