As we wrap up 2023, we would like to say a huge thank you for all your support this year. Your amazing fundraising events, supporting our ambassador, Florence Pugh’s ‘Cooking with Flo’ and following us on social media. Our Research Fellows worldwide have also had a fantastic year, coming together in August for our annual Summer School. Plus, we got to meet many of you face-to-face at F1 races, the Randox Grand National, Autosport International Show and at other brilliant events.
This year has created plenty of fantastic memories and here are some of our highlights:
Formula 1
F1 announced its support for Race Against Dementia at the start of the 2023 season.
Through a combined commitment to innovation, Formula 1 and Race Against Dementia used the sport’s global platform and growing fan base to raise awareness and champion fundraising efforts, encouraging drivers, sponsors and fans to join our charity’s urgent mission.
I want to pay tribute to Sir Jackie Stewart for his incredible efforts
Formula 1’s CEO Stefano Domenicali shared, “I want to pay tribute to Sir Jackie Stewart for his incredible efforts to raise awareness and funding for a cause that I know is very personal to him.”
Race Against Dementia Summer School
The yearly Race Against Dementia Summer School reconvened at Silverstone with our Research Fellows from around the world, leading figures in dementia research, the medical field and Formula 1 joining us. During the four-day event, Professor Martin Elliott talked about how the unexpected partnership between Formula 1 and paediatric heart surgery had led to remarkable breakthroughs. This collaboration, which included McLaren and Ferrari, showcased parallels between F1’s effective systems and medical practice.
NAPA Racing at Knockhill
NAPA Racing UK marked their 50th BTCC race in support of our charity with a special event. Their tartan-themed cars, Scottish outfits and fun activities raised £10,235.76 for our charity and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined in and supported NAPA Racing UK on the day.
Ferrari Trento
Ferrari Trento and F1 Authentics joined forces to auction signed bottles from the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship. These special collectibles were signed by the three top drivers from each race and with 18 bottles from the 2023 season up for auction, Ferrari Trento raised £44,045.93 for our charity.
The Telegraph Christmas Charity Appeal
Race Against Dementia was selected to be part of The Telegraph’s Christmas Charity Appeal, which continues until January 2024. So far, we have shared stories about our F1-inspired dementia research and the great work our groundbreaking Fellows are involved in while Sir Jackie Stewart manned a phone line at The Telegraph’s annual phone-in, which raised £241,000 for the four charities involved in the Appeal. As we head into 2024, we invite you to join our race. We ask you to consider how you or your organisation can help support our mission by clicking this link because together, we can beat dementia.
