Dr Claire Durrant and Dr Cara Croft recognised as Emerging Leaders by the UK Dementia Research Institute

Posted on the 29th March 2021

Congratulations to RAD Fellows Dr Cara Croft and Dr Claire Durrant for being awarded Emerging Leader status by the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI).

The Emerging Leader title recognises early career scientists showing outstanding progress in their research within a prestigious fellowship position.  It will be in place for the duration of their Race Against Dementia ARUK Fellowship.

Well-deserved recognition of their research and commitment to beating dementia.

More about the UK DRI Emerging Leaders Programme

The UK DRI Emerging Leaders programme supports outstanding postdoctoral researchers on their journey to research independence through the provision of patronage and career support under the oversight of a UK DRI Group Leader.

To be supported by Race Against Dementia and be recognized as a UK DRI Emerging Leader for my research enabled by this exceptional fellowship opportunity is such a great privilege. Sir Jackie and RAD are showing that by supporting early career researchers to develop their own independent research we can start to make change and breakthroughs in dementia research. I hope this recognition highlights that dementia research funding for early career researchers at this current time is critical and provides the foundation for a new generation of UK dementia research leaders whose commitment and research ideas can and will lead to the dementia cures of our future.

Dr Cara Croft

The RAD fellowship scheme is certainly attracting attention within the dementia community; I have lost count of the numbers of people who remark on the incredible opportunities this scheme provides. The "Emerging leader" title is only given to individuals who have shown progress in a prestigious fellowship position. The fact that my fellowship has been deemed eligible signals that Race Against Dementia is viewed as a leading contributor to the field of dementia research. Quite remarkable for such a young charity and a real testament to Sir Jackie’s vision.

Dr Claire Durrant

To know that two of our team are leading the way, is fantastic. It’s also a huge credit to Claire and Cara personally that they have achieved this.

A very big thank you from me and from Race Against Dementia for what they have achieved to date and what I am sure they will go on to achieve in the future.
